What is emergence?

Emergence is the creation or beginning of something new using a previous technology, piece of knowledge, or material. I think about parts coming together to form a whole when I hear emergence. I think of new inventions or things that we’ve had in our inventory for a long time but we keep improving it. These include smartphones, that have been increasing in complexity, efficiency, and practicality since its creation.

The psychological phenomena in organisms emerged from the neurobiological phenomena of living things, which is seen as simple organisms transformed and evolved into larger more complex organisms over time and this gave way to more complex systems such as the digestive tract, a closed circulatory system, and consciousness.

I think emergence happens in our daily lives as we learn more things and mature and develop our way of thinking, as we arrive to new scientific conclusions, and especially through politics as the political climates of different societies change and give way to new ideas and interpretations of previous one.

Compound Eyes

Compound eyes are types of eyes found in arthropods such as fruit flies. Compound eyes have a mesh-like appearance with numerous lens-capped optical units called ommatidia. There are 2 types of compound eyes that can form either apposition images, where each ommatidium focuses on rays so very small images of only a small parts of the visual field form, or superposition images, that gain brightness but lose sharpness compared to apposition images.

Each ommatidium consists of a lens, transparent crystalline cone, light-sensitive visual cells, and pigment cells separating each ommatidium. Each ommatidium observes a certain solid angle of the visual and conveys the information of that particular information.
